Shirly, a friend of mine, has some problems with her new
Fujitsu laptop.

She had it over here yesterday.
We attempted to resolve the problems by a couple of calls to her isp hotline but had to leave unresolved as I had to go out.

The Problem:
We can dial in to the isp,
1. but outlook express cant send "unsent messages".
I forget the exact error message but i think it
was '... cant resolve the pop.xxxx.xxx server".

2. IE doesn't work, but I forgot the error message.

3. I tried installing pegasus email [ with which I
am far more familiar than outlook express ]
and i couldn't get it to work either.

I made notes of the exact error messages [ on shirley's laptop ]

She had at one stage installed "norman personal firewall"
- i've never heard of this.
& I had a fair amount of trouble removing it.

At the hotline's suggestion, I tried disabling the
xpPro firewall, and then removing, re-setting up an account in Outlook express.

I also tried [ a couple of times ] setting up a new connection.

we checked for spelling errors so i dont think that is
the problem.

Her laptop is a Fujitsu vistra? - i forget the model.
Running XPPro with SP2 installed.
I forget how she got SP2.

She only has an OEM install CD - plus the other
install CD's eg for CD burner.

She was connecting via a standard telecom phone plug
into the phone socket & PC socket.
The cable supplied had a moulded something about 2cm
diam on it.

I use a cable with just the two standard telecom phone plug

TAI for any help.

p.s. I thought i'd post this before she comes over next time.

Then, I've also got a few command line parameters to try
- i didn't have the time to try them previously.

Start, Run, cmd
netsh winsock reset

Wait for the prompt to reboot. Do so.

Test again.

netsh winsock reset" is the first thing to try, if that doesn't fix it you may get some further clues by looking in the Event Viewer for any errors.
