I recently built a website and unfortuantely someone else chose the isp. These people don't have the ususal user friendly upload capabilty. I downloaded a freebie called aceftp. I set it up and when I try to transfer a file it gives me a user access denied. The tech people are shrugging there shoulders and trying to bounce me back to the isp. I'll pass. Anyone, fianlly to the question:can someone give me the syntax to ftp from a DOS prompt?

Thanks,
Russ

Go to start, run, type ftp
A window with an FTP prompt should pop up. Type open "ftp site name"
Enter your username and password.
Look here for other commands:

Coffeecup FTP is a very good FTP client as well and is free....

Thanks kippy great so far.
I got logged in fine. for syntax I tried:
put c:\lcm\index.html \www
it gave me an ftp prompt again like it worked but it's not
uploaded to the site.

I think you need to navigate to the directory you want the file in on the remote site and then do the put without the \www.

That's it. Right on. You wouldn't believe how much I fought with this. Is there a way to copy the whole local dir. I tried put c:\lcm and c:\lcm\*.* but neither worked.

Thanks alot for the help.

tyr the mput command instead of put.
