Hi,
Regardless of which ftp client I use, my ftp connection is refused. (I have tried 3) Furthermore, I attempted to connect to ftp to my web site using my friend’s machine and the connection went fine.

The issue is clearly on my side.

I am running XP pro.

Should I need the ftp publishing service:
It is supposed to start under my msconfig settings However, I see it is not running. I attempted to start it, however, I got an error that it could not start it, Error 1717, Interface unknown. (IIS admin is running )

Are there any other services that could be doing this???
Where do I begin.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Yoni

i had the same problem a while back. i was behind a firewall and had to configure it to allow ftp.

Chances are it is the XP firewall. You'll have that enabled by default after an installation of XP. If that is not the problem, do you have a software firewall like Norton Personal Firewall? If so that has to be configured properly. Are you behind a router? If so that has to be configured properly. Sometimes it is the client too, are they connecting in PASV mode or ASCII? It does make a difference. Try the firewall items and let us know if it doesn't work. Jason Wichman

Hi
Thanks for the answers, I am not behind a firewall that I know of, but you suggested that I am behind a default firewall for XP.
I went to XP help and followed the instructions – Network Connections > My_connection > Network Tasks > Change Settings > Advanced. Under the advanced tab I am told "Windows can not display the properties of this connection. The Windows management instrumentation WMI information might be corrupted. To correct this use windows system restore...."
Any ideas?
Thanks alot,
Jonathan

Well sounds like you will have to do a system restore. First, though, try to go into the properties in a different user profile, admin or even under safe mode. If it does the same thing, pop in the XP cd and do a restore. Sounds like a file is currupt. I would recommend using the other users first though. If you don't do this, you won't get your FTP working because of the firewall. Jason Wichman
