Does anyone know of a program that will allow me to login to my website directory online (not my harddrive), and then search & replace a text string in an entire folder of files? I have a program called InfoRapid that will do this for an entire folder on my harddrive; and I have another program called MEdit that will do this for a single file only in the online directory, but I can't find anything to do an entire folder in the online directory.

The reason for this is I had to recently change servers, so all my cgi files need to have the base path url changed.

It would be convenient to just login; indicate the cgi-bin folder as the target; define the text string to find; define the text string to use as the replacement; then hit "Replace All".

If you've seen anything like this, please let me know...

RenoWV,

I am not sure of a single product that will do what you want, but a possibility is to map a drive to your FTP server's drive using Tools -> Map Network drive facility.

Once you have it set up as a drive, you should be able to change into the subdirectory and use your InfoRapid software by pointing it at this remote drive.

Be sure though to back up everything from the site beforehand and to disconnect the drive before you log off the internet.

Thanks John for your detailed technical advice. I've never gone down this particular path, so may try your suggestion with a very minor site first, to see how it works in case I mess it up. Like most people who would be undertaking such a step for the first time, I am hesitant to do anything that might inadvertantly bring down the internet ;-}

If you take a look at a program called flash FXP

you can get it at
you can log into both sites simultaniously and drag and drop between sites. there is also a compare option in the tools. i've not used it but this might be what you're looking for?

HAHA, The only internet it would bring down would be yours. But it sounds like a good idea if both computers are at the same location. You will probably not be able to do this remotely.
As for the above suggestion, do it from the PC hosting the web site if you have access.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I will likely just have to make all the changes by running InfoRapid on the folder on my harddrive, then re-upload everything using standard FTP. While MEdit allows me to modify a single file live on the server in real time, I didn't know if it was even possible to do a whole folder, so thought I'd ask. Such a feature would not be the worst idea on earth, so maybe we'll see such a tool somewhere down the road...
