How do I transfer Files using ftp from Unix server to win98 client .
I do not want to do ftp from client side.

I want to transfer some files from Unix server to client directly using ftp.

sdhus,

To do this you will need to start an FTP server on the win98 machine, then you can "PUT" the files there.

Alternately:
have a writable share on the win98 machine,
install samba on the unix system (you don't have to have anything shared).
use smbclient then to transfer files to the win98 machine. smbclient has a command set very similar to ftp.

HTH,

I use some software called "visionfs"
It lets you see your Unix server in network neigbourhood...

It should come with your Unix package, perhaps on the skunkware CD.

I reckon this your best bet!

marshall brown,
look at stanhubble's link in forum "share passwd expiration" opened 7/23. it is for the sco.com samba link. is that what you're lookin for?

Sco has some software that allows for Unix to windoze file and print sharing. It is called visionfs. The last time I used it the licensing was free (version 2 or something like that) It is very easy to install and administer. Anyways easier than compiling samba.

Otherwise you will need to load an FTP server onto the windoze machine.

Visonfs or samba would be your best bet.

I have a real basic samba recipe I can share if needed
