i am having a problem connecting to my redhat 9.0 FTP server, but only from one particular computer. it is a Dell dimension 4500, with windows XP.

When i connect directly to the redhat with the static IP address, there is no problems. I get the login screen and i can sucessfully log in. however when i try to use the public IP address obtained thru the router i get errors even though i used the same login name and password.

thru any other computer, i have no problems what so ever. I enter the public IP address, the login and pass, and boom I'm in sucessfully.

the router is configured to have ports 20, 21 forwarded.

It sounds like a routing problem. Is ftp the only protocol not connecting from this machine? Are the machines that have no problems connecting on the same subnet? Some times, routers have to be told to allow pass-through traffic. You can do this by allowing IPSec and PPTP which are UDP 500 and TCP 1723 respectively.

the machine having the problem is on the same subnet as the redhat FTP server. the computers that sign on to the FTP server also are on the same subnet.

additionally, i can go to a outside computer (Say at my house) and get into the FTP server with no problem.

it seems like it is just this one computer having a problem.
