Hi I have a V880, running solaris 8. There is a problem where if a file is over about 2.5 Mb, and FTPd onto this machine, the file transfer completes okay, but the in.ftpd doesn't appear to send a Transfer Complete message back to the client. This means that the client process just sits there and never dies, although the in.ftpd process on the server does.

I have looked at the following Solaris FTP pathces but they don't appear to help.

108899 SunOS 5.8: /usr/bin/ftp patch
111606 SunOS 5.8: /usr/sbin/in.ftpd patch

Has anyone else experienced this problem and ideas to resolve?

thanks,

Dubbs.

I suggest to install recommended patches (or at least all patches dealing with network, routing, etc.); even if the matching bug is not mentioned in the bugfixes the programmers sometimes change code and change beaviour... ;-)

Thanks,

Any idea what might cause this problem? It's difficult for me to patch this system for political reasons.

thanks,

D.

I guess it is a bug, ftp receives a "transfere complete" (or whatever the ftp Protocol says) but does not close session and socket...

If you have a Service Contract with Sun open a call; Sun can find out why or what is going wrong...!

I have a call logged with SUN but thought I'd get better luck on here!

To clarify, when I do a snoop between the server and client, I notice that a transfer complete message does not get generated, i.e. I don't see it from the snoop. If I FTP a smaller file and the problem does not occur, I see the transfer complete message in my snoop output.

is both server and client a Sun machine? I think it is the server's fault not to send a "complete"; is there a firewall (virus-scanner?!) inbetween?
