Does anyone have any experience successfully backing up a VM pro server to a PC that has FTP server software installed. If so, what brand of FTP server are you running and can you give me a breakdown of the backup settings in the VM Pro client.

if you run Windows version of VMPro then just share the vm folder and backup with a free program from the backup server or PC.
I use FBackup most of the time

If you run Linux then it gets more involved and I rather not tell you something stupid and confuse things

Give a tech a solution and he will be back tomorrow to ask you the next question, teach a tech how to read the manual and he will be able to solve the problems for a life time.

It would be the Linux version. I'm trying to back up vm pro on a UC module.

there is a thread out there where tlpeter described how that can be done I think. You might want to search for it on here as I remember something about 3-4 months back

The FTP backup is easy

Use this as an example:

ftp.Nortel4Ever.com
\CustomerFolder
Username
Password

In this case you must have a folder for ftp.Nortel4Ever.com\CustomFolder

We use filezilla as FTP server.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Or... VM Pro 8.1.9016.0 has a FTP backup feature built in allowing all the standard backup features, but it will upload to a FTP site. Get them to upgrade :)
Output is a GZ file, 7-Zip is a good open source client to view the archives. Link -->
We haven't had to restore from those backups yet, but if you go through the archive you'll find all of the items and in the worst case, be able to manually rebuild by dropping the files in the correct places.
