Hello,

I am currently fixing a compaq desktop for a friend and I restored the windows xp software because it appeared to be corrupt. However it appeared to freeze on the "please wait" screen with the windows logo. Thinking it was at the fault of the restore, my friend had also provided me with a seperately purchased copy of windows xp, this too caused the same problem. Please help!

Thanks!

Is there anything plugged in to the PC? other than the mouse and keyboard of course.
If not:
What you describe is a typical symptom of a bad memory module.

There is nothing other than a mouse, a keyboard, and a monitor plugged into the unit. If it is a problem with the memory, it can simply be switched out and continue the installation correct?

Thanks!

Okay problem solved. Thank you so much Martin for your help! it is very much appreciated!

Thanks!
