I'm running 2003 server w/ SQL 2K SP4 and the educational software (CompassLearning Odyssey)demands SP3a. Is there a way for me to safely go down to this?

There is no rollback for a service pack. You would need to remove the SQL Server and reinstall from scratch.

Is their a specific reason that thier software doesn't work with SP4?

can't see the reason, it just says that it doesn't see sp3a & won't take another step

That's crap. Call them up and see if they have an updated version that will install on a more secured version. I'd also find out if you can upgrade to SP4 after install.
