I have a computer with a msi-kt4vl when I go to boot it freezes on checking nv ram I've tried known good ram but still freezes on boot.Any ideas? thanks Dan

This is assumming that the problem happens when the ram is counting and you have the right settings for the proccessor:

Disconnect the keyboard and mouse and try to boot.

If that don't work...

Reset bios to default configuration.

If that don't work...

disconnect all devices from the mother board except for your video card, ram and cpu.

If that don't work...

Reseat the proccessor, Video card, and ram.

If that don't work...

try your ram in a different slot... if you have more than one stick of ram in the computer then try one and then the other in different slots.

If that don't work...

try another video card then try another processor.

ok I've tried good ram in all three slots nothing same lock up I'll start component by component .I also cannot enter bios when this happens but if I unplug my hd and cd-rw I can enter bios???

From your last post it sounds as if either the HDD or CD RW may be at fault. I have seen faulty CD drives cause a boot failure on several occasions. Help us to help you, please post back and tell us if this helped.
All things are possible except skiing through a revolving door.

I haven't seen an ide device or floppy cause a hard lock during the post but have seen a key board cause a system not to get video at all. Not knocking the ide or floppy cause at all though. You've got to weed all hardware problems out by process of elimination. If the device is not connected and you get the problem then it is not the problem.

Hi 70sdiver, you might want to look at the correct jumper setting for your CDROM and HDD, if both are on the same ribbon the HDD should be set to Master and the CD to Slave...

if both are set to MASTER you will not be able to boot and the system hangs in the POST because the BIOS tries to figure out which one is the MASTER and can't... ergo a hang up of the system...

Another problem might be simply the Ribbon cable used... could be faulty...

Hope to have helped...
