Has anybody visited Microsofts MSDN homepage recently? They are giving away a Free 'Not-For-Resale' Copy of Visual Basic .NET 2003 Standard Edition to anyone who watches 5 online movies/tutorials on the new features in VB.NET 2003 and then answers some questions on what they thought about them.

I couldnt beleive it, anyway, just thought I'd share that news with everyone in the forum incase your are interested. I know it's only the standard version, but it retails for 80-100 bucks. Can't be a bad deal, unless they are harvesting your personal details for purposes of doing evil, but Microsoft would never do that, right?

... But you can get free versions of the main .NET languages when you download the .NET SDK. Can you actually purchase retail versions of VB.NET?

Its not so much VB.NET as it is a standard version of VisualStudio.NET (which comes with VB.NET...you can also get standard versions of C# and C++).

Basically, you get a limited version of VS.NET (no assemblies for instance).

So it is a pretty good value (I bought my version of VB.NET Standard for $200Cdn after taxes).

I wonder too whether you get any good manuals, probably not. But hey my copy is suppose to arrive in 6 to 8 weeks so I guess I'll find out then.

Actually, mine came with some really sweet posters that outlined the entire .NET object model. But yeah, nothing like a "how to" book or anything. Still pretty kewl though.

Thanks BoulderBum.

Just a quick update to let you know mine arrived, in just over a month. Not bad.

No super thick manuals, but it does comes with the MSDN disks.

I wonder if they'll give away there new 'Express' edition of VS.NET to put us all out of jobs ;(

I heard that they were trying to increase interest in students and developers in other languages.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Thanks - Jennifer
