Why does Crystal Reports claim to have free-form placement when in reality it does not? I've tried everything to achieve this "free-form placement" within Crystal Reports and can not do so. I'm am highly disappointed that this software cannot live up to what it claims. If anyone has any suggestions to achieve free-form placement then please let me know.

Your problem is probably due to not removing all the vertical and horizontal guidelines. What happens is
that as long you have those guidelines, the object you are moving tends to snap to those locations. If you remove the guides you would be able to achieve smooth position movement.

Also, make sure that in the Crystal report designer that you have the Grid Option Free form placement set on. Note that if you have the setting set off in your Report Options, it will override the report designer options.

Thanks for the help guys but I've tried those things and I do not have what I would consider free-form placement. Lets say I need to move a small box an 1/16 of an inch, sometimes I can but other times it will only move 1/8 of an inch over and that makes my report look terrible when everything is lined up correctly except a couple of small boxes.

I have no guidelines on my report and I could not find the free-form option in the Report Options, only the Options has that selection. I'm quite stumped right now.

Are you 100% sure you have no guidelines on your report?

Did you manually remove all of them?

You should be able to use the align function and sizeing function to take care of most of this. Go to Menu choice Format and select Align or Size.

Ok, I got it now. Thanks for all the help everybody. I guess I should learn not to cuss an application until I know it's true capabilities.

I had to manually remove the guidelines and undo the snap to grid option. Now I have free reign over my report. Thank you for your time to help me out. I hope everybody has a good weekend and I'll be back at it come Monday. Now all I have to do is get ready for the Daytona 500. :)
