We have upgraded from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003 running on a Windows Server 2000 machine. All of the latest patches have been installed.

Now we have noticed that when creating meeting requests we can no longer see the details of another persons currently scheduled calendar. Is this by design and if so can I set up my Exchange Server to allow users to see the details of the Free/Busy Schedule?

Any questions or comments would be greatly appreciated.

This sounds more like during the migration you lost the contents of the public freebusy folder. When the outlook client changes an item on the calendar, or at a specified interval as set on the client, an event fires that reads through appointment items and compiles the public freebusy message for that user. This message is sent to the public freebusy folder. Other clients view freebusy time by reading the appropriate message from the public freebusy folder.

If, since migration, many of ther users' freebusy times show hash marks or are blank, then the user(s) in question have not generated and posted a public freebusy folder. You can open the outlook client with the /cleanfreebusy switch for each problem user to regenerate a public freebusy message. That can get messy in larger environments. In this case you'll want to use the updatefb utility, available by calling Microsoft.

Thank you for that information, but I am unsure if this will help us. There is free/busy information there. When I create a meeting request, it shows blocks of times that people are free/busy, but when I mouse over the blocked out time, I do not get the detail information on why they are busy anymore. I am wondering if this is by design or if there is something wrong.

Thanks again

Stephen
