Hi,

I have a USB driver isssue...

I've just added a generic USB hub to my system and for some reason i can't get the driver to stick (for use of a better word), this also happens with 2 of the harddrives on the hub. For the HDs and HUb - The found new hardware window pops up when i connect them, i insert the CD and it copies the driver and says finshed but then the window pops up again 'found new hardware' and this seems to be on an infiite loop. So i cancel it and the harddrive is visable and acessable until i restart when it disapears.

Can anyone suggest how to get the drivers to stick so that it is recognized everytime ?

Best,
Shaun

Does the hub have a seperate power supply, or is it running from the supply from the pc usb port?

It didn't come with a power supply but it has a hole on that side that looks like it would be for one. I have no idea what it would require though.

Are the hard drives powered? If they are 2.5in laptop drives they will probably be pulling 5v from the hub each.

harddrives are all powered

Try the external drives directly into the usb on the pc. do the drivers stick then?

Also, does the hub work ok with no devices plugged in? If it does then it's most prob a power issue.

with no devices plugged in the hub stil goes through the same driver process and disapears when restarted

Also one of the drives on the hub is having the same problem as the hub

Is there a standard reason for a driver not sticking? or for a device that has had the driver copied to the system folder failing to been seen on start up ?

Shaun

Some USB devices require you to connect the hardware before installing the driver software... which is contrary to user's manuals that caution you to install the software before connecting the hardware. I have had this issue with USB to serial port converters, follow the instructions and it doesn't work.
