I work in a hospital setting and have a new doctor that has moved in, I have set there office up with one phone line and one fax line. I have just been asked if there is a way to get another line to the doctor’s office for the staff. I do not have anymore room in that building for a new line (I have used all of the copper running between the two buildings and running more is not an option). I have told them to get a phone line from BellSouth/AT&T, the question put to me is if I can have there ext that is on the switch forward to the Bellsouth line if the ext is busy. As running the phone system is just one of MANY hats I have to wear here I only have a basic knowledge of how to set things up in this system and do not know how to do this. I know it is possible but do not know how. Any help would be greatly appreciated. my system is a Definity G3siV9

Put the BellSouth number in the coverage remote table and give the ext. a coverage path with the first coverage point
rxxx, where xxx is the slot the BellSouth number is.

I can see the "Remote call coverage table" and it even has two entries in it (though I don't know what they are for) but how do I assign that to the ext (sorry if I ask questions that are basic but I have very little experience), also I do not know if this makes a difference but the ext is an analog line. I don't know if that changes anything.
Thanks for your patients

No problem
First do "list cov pa" and find a path number that isn't assigned. Then "change cov pa (the unused path number)". Most of the fields are self explanitory. Here's one of mine.

Coverage Path Number: 11
Hunt after Coverage? n
Next Path Number: Linkage

COVERAGE CRITERIA

Station/Group Status Inside Call Outside Call
Active? n n
Busy? y y
Don't Answer? y y Number of Rings: 3
All? n n
DND/SAC/Goto Cover? y y

COVERAGE POINTS

Terminate to Coverage Pts. with Bridged Appearances? n

Point1: h98 Point2: Point3:
Point4: Point5: Point6:

For coverage point 1 instead of h98 ( my voicemail), you'll have r3 or whichever number the BellSouth number is in the remote coverage table.

One more step do "change st XXXX" and put the coverage path number in coverage path 1. All this is assuming there is nothing in that field already, possibly a covarage to voicemail. If there is let me know and we'll work it in

Thanks that was just the info I needed, I appreciate the help!

Wanted to add that "change coverage path #" will not work if the coverage path doesn't exist. You must do a "add coverage path next" or "add coverage path #"

# - number of coverage path.

How is BellSouth going to get their number into the building? Do they have copper available and you don't.

Just asking. You might could make an arrangement with them, if this is the case. Also you may can free up pairs by converting double digital sets to single digital. Not sure what you have, but this is what we have to do in some places we are short on copper.

Hell, there are no rules here - we're trying to accomplish something.

OK here is another problem with this. I have the new Bellsouth line into the office I have set the remote cover path up but when I try to apply it I get this message, "136" Extended Cvg/Fwd Admin feature not assigned. Here is my cover path set up

COVERAGE PATH

Coverage Path Number: 136
Hunt after Coverage? n
Next Path Number: Linkage

COVERAGE CRITERIA

Station/Group Status Inside Call Outside Call
Active? n n
Busy? y y
Don't Answer? y y Number of Rings: 4
All? n n
DND/SAC/Goto Cover? y y

COVERAGE POINTS

Terminate to Coverage Pts. with Bridged Appearances? n

Point1: r3 Point2: Point3:
Point4: Point5: Point6:

Is there something wrong in the way I set it up?

Also I am trying to do this as a second cover path, the first is for the voice mail, is this what is messing this up?
Here is the othe cover path set up.
Coverage Path Number: 117
Hunt after Coverage? n
Next Path Number: Linkage

COVERAGE CRITERIA

Station/Group Status Inside Call Outside Call
Active? y y
Busy? y y
Don't Answer? y y Number of Rings: 4
All? n n
DND/SAC/Goto Cover? y y

COVERAGE POINTS

Terminate to Coverage Pts. with Bridged Appearances? n

Point1: h32 Point2: Point3:
Point4: Point5: Point6:
I would like to have this basically set to when the original line is free it go's to voice mail and when it is busy it transfers to the outside line.
Or is this something that I can have set one way but not both??

Bummer. Extended Cov/Fwd is under system customer options - not something that you can change. Do you have vectors?

Just a short note can you put there fax on the bellsouth number and you have the two lines for you PBX and they just change there fax number. Problem there is if number is published and on letterheads.

To answer your question phonedud, yes the number has been published so moving that would cause some confusion, though that would have been the easiest way to do it.
I got this to work late yesterday with the help of a local tech that I know, well she got it to work and I just was there for moral support.

COVERAGE PATH

Coverage Path Number: 136
Hunt after Coverage? y
Next Path Number: 117 Linkage

COVERAGE CRITERIA

Station/Group Status Inside Call Outside Call
Active? n n
Busy? y y
Don't Answer? n n Number of Rings: 4
All? n n
DND/SAC/Goto Cover? n n

COVERAGE POINTS

Terminate to Coverage Pts. with Bridged Appearances? n

Point1: r3 Point2: Point3:
Point4: Point5: Point6:

She changed the "Hunt after Coverage" to yes and then assigned the next path number for my Audix, set all of the coverage criteria to NO except for "Busy", we tested it yesterday and it work perfectly.
Hope this helps someone else out.
Thank you for all your responses.
