I am aware that there are several posts concerning this matter but none of them have been able to answer my question in a manner that I understood...maybe it is my lack of knowledge on the matter...so please be detailed and specific...thank you in advance...

Running:

Windows SBS2003
Exchange Server

I have a user joe@ourdomain.com that I would like to forward his email that comes in through exchange to an extenal address, joe@outside.com...I have read several threads that mention custom recipients...I am still unclear about how this works...could anyone please help me out with this situation...thanks again

You can deliver to an alterate recipient in Exchange, but you have to pick from the list of people set up on the server. This is where custom recipient is useful.

Open up Exchange Administrator,
Click on the + on the left side next to the name of your server
Click onRecipients it may be at the bottom of the list
Click on File at the top of the screen
Choose New Custom Recipient
Choose Internet Address
Type in the email address
The properties page will then come up, you need to fill in the Display name and alias.

Now you have this set up you can choose this as an alternate recipient in the delivery options of the property page of your user.

I am not sure why but I do not have an Exchange Administrator. I am Small Business Server 2003...I can go into User Properties and get to a tab there that allows me to add email addresses...one choice I have is to add a 'custom address' ... where I have to fill in to fields 1 - 'email type' & 2 - 'email address' ... I am not sure what the type could be...is this what you mean when you speak of 'custom recipients'??

For exchange I use Exchange System Manager...where under the server name there is no option for 'recipients'???

in Small Business server, I am not sure how to create a custom recipient...I am confident that if someone can explain this process in detail then I will be able to complete what it is aI am trying to do...

please help
