I can do this using a single variable, but, alas, putting multiple variables together in a formula coherently is eluding me...

I have to calculate items in a list based on variable rates:

In plain language, this is what I need to do:

Assuming the list is in Column A, I need the formula in Column B to read:

"IF A2="1", then multiply by 10; IF A2="2", then multiply by 20; IF A2="3", then mulitply by 30; IF A2="4", then muliply by 40.

I appreciate your help.

Regards,

Candy

why not have in column B

=A1 * A2 * 10

if you want what ever is in a1 multiplied by a2*10

Hi Candy,

If A2 = 1 then multiply What by 10?

And is it always multiply by 10 times A2?

Enjoy,
Tony

I'm sorry...I should have considered this...

The values "1", "2", "3" and "4" are text values (ie. "Chicago", "New York", "Tampa", "Miami").

I used numberic values to simplify the example (but it ended up confusing it further!).

Regrets.

Thanks, dyarwood:

The end user will be confused if I include the rate and totals on the same sheet. Yeah, it's goofy, but it's happened before!

Thanks,

Candy

Hi Candy,

So, in Column A you have a text value.

And in column B you want to say something like:
If column A = "New York" then value = 10 * something
If column A = "Chicago" then value = 20 * something

1. What is something?
2. How many different cities are there?

Enjoy,
Tony
