I have a physically damaged backup that has some low priority data on it that would be nice to get back. The value of the data is not such that it is worth sending to a data recovery company but it would be useful to be able to recover some of it.

I have used dd to dump the content of the tape to disk (minus a few damaged sectors) but can not make any sense of the arcserve on tape data structures that preceed each volume and each file.

Does any one know of a resource where I can find this information.

Thanks
Sandy

Arcserve can understand if the tape related to it by checking tape header if the header get damaged I think the only people can help you is CA support.
