Dear All,

I have an Access DB that contains a login form. Once a user logs in, they are presented with a switchboard form.

On one PC, after entering your credentials and pressing enter, Access just sits there with the hour glass - The form never loads. When you click cancel Access closes, so the application hasn't exactly hung.

I've logged in as an administrator on this machine and the same thing happens. I've checked the regional settings and they are the same as everyone else's. I've removed Access and reinstalled it and the same thing is happening. I've also changed the macro security level down to low, and ensured that the default open mode is set to shared.

Has anyone got any other ideas? The PC is for a new user who starts on Monday and needs this application... Aarrrggh! :-(

Thanks,
Toby

How are ya TobyA . . .

[ol][li]reinstall your DB! (you've probably already done this).[/li]
[li]Check that all references are there (in the VBE editor - Tools - References) and match those in the deployed db.[/li]
[li]Set a break point in the initial code that runs and step thru the code.[/li][/ol]

Hey AceMan,

Thanks for your post.

1. I can't really reinstall the DB - It is just an MDB file sitting on a mapped network drive. There is a separate MDB file containing linked tables, but that's it.

2. This is what the references look like on the PC in question...

I don't know how to check if one of those things is missing or not....

3. Sorry, I have no idea how to do this either :->

Thanks again,
Toby

Without much information to go on, try uninstalling and re-installing the default printer and make certain it is selected as default before attempting to open the db. Oddly this has been the fix for several somewhat similar problems with access db's here at work.

Hi Oblie,

Thanks for your response.

I just tried that, but alas, no joy.

If anyone else has any suggestions, or could tell me how to set a break point in the code I'd be very grateful.

Thanks again,
Toby

With the DB closed, in windows explorer navigate to the folder holding the db. If you see an [blue]YourDatabaseName.ldb[/blue] file, delete it, open the DB and try again . . .

Hi Aceman,

The lock files only appear when someone else is in the database....

mmdbv3.ldb and mmdb_tables.ldb

When there is nobody else in the DB the lock files are not there, and this client still doesn't work.

I'm tried reinstalling Access with no joy, however I think I'm going to try re-installing office and see if that makes any difference. Maybe it's some missing DLLs or something that are causing this behaviour.

Dear All,

I've reinstalled the whole of MS Office.

Has anyone else got any suggestions before I give up and build a new PC for this user???

Thank you.

Did you set a break point and step through your code as AceMan suggested?

Ken S.

Hi Ken,

No, I didn't do that because I don't know how.

I was hoping someone might be able to tell me, or point me in the direction of a good website....

Thanks,
Toby
