I have developed mainly with Access 97 and recently I have changed to 2000. I have 2 questions with regards to forms that I have created since :
1. I created the most straightforward form ever. Form without any buttons, simply a query with the textboxes that correspond to the fields of the query. I would like the form to open in data mode and not in form mode. So I set the default view to data and views allowed to data. But still it opens in form mode. When I select the data view manualy I can no longer return to the form view. WHY WON'T IT OPEN IN DATA VIEW?

2. If I am in creation mode and I have the window with the options in it, if I close the form without closing the options window, the next time I open the form normally I see the options window. Is this NORMAL ?? If not how can I stop it ?

1 - the options you select in the for design properties are neglected when using another arguement in for instance the openform method of the docmd object. Try specifying the view there too, is it DataSheet view?

[tt]docmd.openform "myform",acFormDS[/tt]

2 - yes that's default in 2000+ versions, and excellent when developing. You can alter much of the properties of form control while the form is open. When deploying, you might consider finding the form property "Shortcut Menu" and set it to No.

Thanks Roy.

In fact I'm working with a french version of Access and so I have the options in french when developing but then all the code is in english. Sometimes it is not obvious what the translation is. DataSheet is the view that I wanted and explains the DS in acformDS.

That worked for question 1 and although the solution 2 didn't work I can live with the idea of closing the options window before leaving the development.

Gee - mixing up properties from time to time, I meant the "Allow Design View" property of the form, set it to "Design View Only" [blush]

doesn't seem to work either.

Never mind

Thanks for your help and time

'Nother typo, this is embarrasing - the "Other" tab of form properties, at the bottom Allow Design Changes should be set to "Design View Only". (Else we might hope PHV steps in with a French translation of that property;-))

Roy-Vidar

The answer was in fact in the Allow design changes (Autoriser modidifications de structure -> Uniquement mode Création)

Thanks for your effort Roy

In fact you wouldn't know if there is a way of switching off the sort option in a form ? I have a database that was previously developed by work experience students that have added buttons and dangerous VBA everywhere. The problem is that as they have done it, if I sort in a form and then click in another record the database crashes quite horribly!! Either I re-do everything which would take me a few days I think, otherwise, I stop the user from sorting for the moment and correct it when I have time.
