form not pulling up after query change

I'm wondering why,,, if I have a form set up based on a query and everything works fine, why would it not work fine if a change to the underlying query was made? The query name is still the same, and it is still gathering the same data (just in another way, I'm not using a dlookup statement anymore). But once I change it, the form, and in one case the form's subform, will no longer show. What do I need to do to fix this/prevent this?
