I asked this question earlier but did not explain it very well so I will try to be cleared.

I have a form, the main form, that has a bunch of fields on it as well as containing a subform.
The security is set up so that any users can update the fields within the subform and not the main form.

A few users have the permissions to update any fields in either the main form or subform.

Problem is that there are 2 fields on the main form that I would like any user to be able to update (as they currently do on the sub form) but no others fields than those 2 (on the main form).

I tried creating a macro that was launched from the subform that would change a field on the main form and made the macro owner 'Admin' but access still sees it as the user trying to update a field they do not have access to.

I already have over 30,000 records in the database so it's too late to do too much rearranging.

Any ideas??

Thanks,
Paul

What type of security do you have in place?? Did you use Access User Level security, or a custom made securty setup??

also.

What vertion of access are you using??

Access 2000 using standard Access user level security

It would be nice if Access would extend security to the field levels on form.

From what I gather everyone can change anything on the subform. Only a very few people can change all the fields on the main form, but you want everyone to be able to update two fields on the main form.

One possible solution is to open security on the main form to everyone. Make all fields enabled = no locked = yes. Test the current user name, if user should have access to all fields, enable them. If just a normal user, enable only those two fields.

Thank you for the suggestion Robert.

I am not much of a programmer but I am assuming that I would have to test for and enable fields with a bit of code. If you know where I can get an example of this sort of function it would be most helpful and I would give it a go.

Many thanks again for your help.

Paul

Paul,

Somewhere I've got an example of this. I'll try and post it by Monday. Robert Berman

Paul,

If you will drop me a note and tell me what version of Access you are using I will send you a demo database and an explanation of what is going on. Robert Berman
