Hi,
My friend had computers ( win XP pro) on a domain, he got rid of the server (he had a server OS trial version - damn!!!)Now he took his computers off the domain and put them in a workgroup. Nobody can log into the local computers because he forgot the original administrator's password. is there anyway that a local username and password can be recovered by booting up in command prompt? is there a free utility I can use that will run in command prompt?

See if this thread helps you any. Its for 2000 pro but it might have some use for your problem.

The thread refers to computers on a network. None of the computers can be logged onto after they were taken off the domain. We cannot recreate the domain because the trial version period for server OS ( Small business server 2003)is over. I guess the only solution is to slave the HD of each computer, get the important files and do a restore and recovery on each machine.

I gave you the wrong thread sorry lol.

This still might not help but this is the one I meant to give.
