Hi everyone -
Well, it's time to get a new home system.
The new system will run MS Office/SQL Server database, VB and surf the web and host my own web site.

With those uses in mind.... which would be a better performer: Pentium 1.4 GHz or AMD Athlon 1.2 GHz, assume 384MB memorty in each.
I'm told that the Athlon is about .2GHz faster than Pentium so I guess 1.2 = 1.4.

But I wonder if the Pentium is optimized better for office apps, Internet surfing??
I am NOT a gamer.

If you have any opinions that are based on EXPERIENCE or FACTS, please post

Thanks, John

Pentium for Office/server, especially if you're running Win2k/XP.
Any old thing if you're running Linux.
AMD if you're gaming, and the need-for-speed has you by the throat! Cheers,
Jim

Facts NOT fiction!!
All the recent bench marks I have read for the 1.2 T/bird versa's the P4 1.4 have completely contradicted the previous author's comments.
In fact the T/bird outperforms the P4 in the combined office applications tests (the common programs used in an office enviroment)and all others bar one! and that one is in 3D gaming!! Fact not fiction and sourced from several articles, not just one.
And of course bang for buck the T/bird also wins hands down as well! Go for DDR ram and one of the latest crop of mobi's from Asus, Abit, IWill or Gigabyte.
