it does not seem to be the case that the font for the numbers used in outline numbering is derived from the styles in which they are set.
For example, I have a set of outline styles used for legal numbering that range from Heading 1 [AaC] to Heading 9 [AaC]. each has its own defined style which is mostly inherited in a cascade from the next level up, and ultimately from Normal [AaC]. the [AaC] is to distinguish from the build in styles so that when different law firms attach their templates during negotiations, the styles do not corrupt.
Unfortunately, the numbers of each outline level seem to take their default style from somewhere OTHER than the style in which they are used. So Heading 1 AaC could be Trebuchet 12 pt, and the font of the number bears no relevance (in my case Times New Roman 14). Indeed if I press the FONT button in the style tab for numbering, I find the place where one can manually set the font and size for the number. I have tried leaving this blank, to no effect.
I am looking for where the _default_ comes from. It's not from the styles, it's not from Normal. It must be from somewhere else.
The reason I need to do this, is that sometimes one needs to move from a 12pt readable document across 20 pages to a 6pt two column layout. I have a different template to apply that does the heavy lifting on this and it works perfectly save that all the numbers in the outline numbering are in some crazily large font size and a font other than that chosen for the heading styles.
The 'small changes' are moving the point size of the base style up and down by a half point to get the document on to one page. currently every time i do this i have to edit heading 1 [AaC], open up the numbering tab and change the font of all nine heading styles so that the number size corresponds.
I trust that explains better.
