Hey all,

Not sure if im missing something obvious here... basically one of our senior users have decided to store all their files on a local computer (and for some reason is against storing on the network- no idea why!).

So what I need to do is synchronise all the contents of a particular folder from the local machine with somewhere on the network. I understand how to use 'Offline folders' but as I understand it this doesn't retain the folder structure - i.e. all the individual files are stored in the 'Offline files' folders.

What i need is a way that the user can continue saving their files on the local computer (eg C:\UserFolder\)and then somehow have this folder replicated/sync'd with a 'UserFolder' on the network. Changes in either the network share or local would have to reflect the other.

Not too sure if I've explained things appropriately. What i dont want is to use the standard 'Offline Folders' feature for reasons described above.

Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,
Sunil

B Castner to the rescue once again- thanks for the link!

I totally forgot about the briefcase feature in Windows- this would be another alternative solution - right? I think it was the fact that I heard there are a few pitfalls in using it(?)

Another great link.

Have a star!

Thanks again.

Offline Files does maintain the structure ... sort of.

It is true that if you go into the offline files folder on your hard drive that all the files will be sitting there without the folder structure. But this is not the way that you are supposed to get to these files. You are supposed to go to the folder as if you are still online and, if you've sync'd the files, they will be there.

For example, if you've sync'd the folder \\home\bob then when you are offline you can still go to \\home\bob and all the files and subfolders will be there with their structure intact. In reality this is all virtual but it does work.

Later ...
