Hey there,

I'm trying to figure this out and I thought it would be pretty easy, however i'm having some trouble with it.

by default in windows server 2008, any new users documents are created in c:\users\%username%

I want to change this to f:\private user documents\%username%

Any ideas would be great!

Thanks!

Use group policy. The setting that you want is under User Configuration --> Policies --> Windows Settings --> Folder Redirection --> Documents.

I cannot find it at the specified location

I found a folder redirection under admin templates, but there's nothing in it about my documents

If you are using 2003 then it would be under Admin Templates. If you are using the 2008 GPO's then it's in the location that I listed.

Even still, under 2003 there should be folder redirection options under the admin templates. It will probably refer to 'my documents' instead. Try right-clicking on the Folder Redirection node and selecting 'poperties'.

There is no such path in my GPO, for windows 2008.

In fact your path doesn't match as early as
User Configuration --> Policies
There is no Policies

under user configuration I have the following 3

+software settings
+windows settings
+administrative settings

I looked under windows settings (ignoring the policies as you stated) and there was nothing there for folder redirection.

Right clicking folder redirection in the admin template only gives me the option for "help" which i've checked and it says exactly what you said .. albiet .. the help file is really from VISTA as it has it plastered all over the place.

am I accessing it wrong?

start > run > gpedit.msc ?

I'm getting to it from Administrative Tools. Start --> Administrative Tools --> Group Policy Management. You're looking at the Local Group Policy Editor, whereas I'm looking at domain group policies.
