Folder Redirection

I am setting up folder redirection (my documents) in an existing environment. I am not having much luck finding out if existing files will be transferred to the user's share automatically if I set it up, or if I am going to need to copy them for the user. Worse case scenario I will just use the test environment to see what happens, but I would like to know if anyone else knows or has better luck finding the answers on MS's site.

If you setup folder redirction on the client locally it will prompt you to move the data. If you use a GPO(recommended) to redirect the my documents folder you have an option to "Move the contentes of My Documents to the new location.
