I want to redirect My Documents to our NFS server (our data store is NFS on)- is this possible?

I've tried some basic settings but the policy does not seem to work.

I use Microsoft SUA client on XP PCs to map to NFS share which works perfectly.

When logged onto the XP client I can manually move (via find target) My Docs with no problems.

Is there a step-by-step guide any for folder redirection?

well, I've had a minor success but I still haven't got the hang of it.

I created a GPO for it, told it to 'Create new folder under root path' set the root path to the NFS share.

I then applied this first off at the top level in Users & Computers.

Did a GPUPDATE /FORCE and it worked! Except the only folder it has created is for the administrator on the DC. My test XP PC (the DC is a test amchine as well) does not create anything at all with the same settings.

I've applied the GPO to just the mycompany users OU and it doesn't work at then.

Using a GPO is correct. You also need to make sure that you have a directory created and that it is permissioned correctly.
These are the GPO settings that I have used and it works beautifully.

User Configuration > Windows Settings > Folder Redirection > My Documents

Setting: Basic (redirect everyone's folder to the same location) *you can change this and subdivide for departmental setups also

Path: \\<servername>\<share>\%USERNAME%\My Documents

Options:
Move the contents of My Documents to the new location: Enabled
Policy Removal Behavior: leave contents

User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Desktop

Prohibit user from changing My Documents path: Enabled

Hope this helps!

Thanks - I'll give it a whirl.

I did set the GPO to create directory 'Create new folder under root path' under the root path so I assumed I did need to create another directory as it implies it will do this for you - and it did for the admin account Ok..strange.

Meant to say, I assumed DID NOT have to create the folders.

Right, still doesn't work.

I've done the following:

Created GPO with the following:

Target - Settings 'Basic - redirect everyones folder to the same location'

Target folder location, first tried 'Create folder for each user under root path' didn't work, so next tried 'redirect to the following location'

The location is set to the following (on a NFS server)

Root Path
\\lxfs.mydomain.com\data

It does nothing.

I have temporarily set the permissions on the NFS server to 777 so permissions shouldn't be a problem.

On the test client I've done a gpresult and it say my GPO mydocs redirect has been applied successfully.

When I select properties on My Docs then Find Target' it is still pointing to the local disk.

Help!!!

I can get to work - but only as admin.

What I mean is, when I log off the DC and then log back on again it creates a 'Administrator' for My Docs on the NFS server perfectly Ok - I just cannot get it work for any other authenticated users.
