Hi,
I've setup folder redirection for My Documents across the domain. Now I want to be able to redirect outlook.pst but know that I'd need to place the file somewhere that it would be picked up by the redirection (eg application data or something).
Does anyone see any issues with this, apart from offline problems(ie having to bypass the filetype restriction).
I want to be able to automatically backup the pst files for users and alos if we do move to more roaming than email and My docs would be available.
I can hear people muttering 'exchange' but I would love to see the day they approve that kind of cost here....

not a real good idea i think your goning to have loads of network traffic you really dont want i see red lights all over your switches

I would just redirect your .pst file to a folder in mydocs and then enable the folder for offline access. Just set it to sync when the user logs off and on. Now your .pst is backed up and you don't have lots of network traffic when trying to access it.

script to xcopy there
C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
folder on to a share on the server .Or what i do tell them to archive regularly and save the archive to the server.
trouble with Pst`s is they get HUGE ive seen some users with over a 2GIG they will just not clean out the rubbish. Ive even got a customer with nearly 1/2g in her deleted items alone.

this wont allow you to have a more roaming profile . youd need to set up every EMAIL AND USER account on every client .

OK, so it sounds like you don't have Exchange and are using POP accounts?

You will not want to run your PST files across the network as they could become damaged and will greatly degrade network performance. Use them locally and install the free Microsoft PST Backup utility to copy them to the network when Outlook is closed.

I hope you find this post helpful. Please let me know if it was.

Regards,

Mark

We're currently using the backup plugin so perhaps we need to continue using that. I just want backup to be as auto as poss for all the users in userland.

Thanks guys.
