FLOPPY WONT WORK

I have a problem with my floppy drive. I installed a new Motherboard back awhile ago & then floppy drive has never worked, now the Floppy can only read but it Cant Write data. What is wrong with it? Sugestions needed!

The red line on the cable is different to the other cables for the floppy . It goes furtherest away from the power supply , not next to it .
On the MB , make sure the red is next to pin 1 .

The red line on the cable goes to pin1 on both the board and the drive. On the drive this may be next to the power plug or away from it depending on the drive, in either case that is not the problem here, if the cable is reversed the drive will not work at all and the drive light stays on constantly.

Have you checked your BIS settings, make sure the Floppy is enabled and set to 3.5" 1.44MB. Also check the cable is fully plugged in, remve and reseat it a couple of times.
If these do not solve it I would suspect a faulty drive or motherboard, can you get hold of another drive to try or alternatively try that drive in another system.

Thanks i think it is a faulty Motherboard because I have used two differant cables & floppy drives & they both dont work. Looks like I will have to get a new Motherboard.

Try changing the settings in the BIOS. Make sure it is set to "a:" - make sure that the floppy controllser on the motherboard is enabled, etc, etc...

And make sure that the drive is set to "a:" by putting it on the cable after the twist in the cable.

And that swap floppy drive isn't set if your BIOS allows such. Ed Fair

Check your BIOS settings - some BIOS's have a setting for READ ONLY on the floppy drive. This needs to be disabled.

possibly your floppy is no good if you exhausted all available avenues try another floppy and see what happens

I had this same thing happen on a Compaq and I had to clear the cmos by unplugging it and removing the battery then turning it on then shutting it down and unplugging it and
replacing it. I honestly don't think it's the board and I would hate to see you buy one and not need it. I would think if it were the floppy controller it would either work or not it wouldn't work half way.
