Hi-

My floppy drive stopped working a few months back, and I havn't really needed to use it much, untill now. I have tried buying a new drive, and cable, and it still doesn't work. I am not yet much of a hardware specialist, but I know that I did get the cables connected correctly.
theEclipse
eclipse_web@hotmail.com
robacarp.webjump.com
**-Trying to build a documentation of a Javascript DOM, crossbrowser, of course. E-mail me if you know of any little known events and/or methods, etc.

Did you make sure the BIOS knows that Floppy drive controler is onboard, and not "Add-in card" also check to see if the correct type of Floppy is chosen in your bios.

Karl
kb244@kb244.8m.com
<a href=
Experienced in , or have messed with : VC++, Borland C++ Builder, VJ++6(starting),VB-Dos, VB1 thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, Borland C++ 3(DOS), Borland C++ 4.5, HTML, ASP(somewhat), QBasic(least i didnt start with COBOL)

Oh and other than the IDE cables being connected correctly, check to see if the Floppy power plug works too, or if you have the floppy power connector attatched.
Karl
kb244@kb244.8m.com
<a href=
Experienced in , or have messed with : VC++, Borland C++ Builder, VJ++6(starting),VB-Dos, VB1 thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, Borland C++ 3(DOS), Borland C++ 4.5, HTML, ASP(somewhat), QBasic(least i didnt start with COBOL)

lets see... yup tried both of those.

thanks anyway
theEclipse
eclipse_web@hotmail.com
robacarp.webjump.com
**-Trying to build a documentation of a Javascript DOM, crossbrowser, of course. What is the symptom of "not working"?
Does it attempt to read a disk and produce an error? Is it failing to boot from the drive? Does the drive light come on?

Be a little more specific.

Set the Bios defaults and remove all but necessary add-in adapters.

dxd

ok

"not working"-meaning the inverse of working :)

the computer doesn't recognize it.
as far as the computer is concerned, it is not there.

I set the BIOS so that it would auto-detect all devices.
theEclipse
eclipse_web@hotmail.com
robacarp.webjump.com
**-Trying to build a documentation of a Javascript DOM, crossbrowser, of course. I finally gave up, and gave it to the computer store where it was bought so many years ago.

The Owner worked on it, and piddled with it. he finally installed one of his drives. It worked.

Later, the Tech came in, and eventually pointed out that it was a phantom drive (like I have any clue what that is) and that was why it wasn't working.

theEclipse
eclipse_web@hotmail.com
robacarp.webjump.com
**-Trying to build a documentation of a Javascript DOM, crossbrowser, of course. yeah I have the same problem except I fixed mine but I cant write anything to it. Any ideas?

If you have replaced the floppy drive and still had the same problem and the cables is on properly then try another cable.
I cant remember the pin number for the write portion but if the wire for that pin is broken, the floppy can read but wont write.
