Floppy Drive Access

Recently when I run almost any program my floppy drive grinds for just a second. It also happens when I open a floder by windows explorer. At first I thought it was Spyware, but I have three programs that run regular scans and they havn't detected anything. Could anyone please help me.

Either there is a floppy disk in the drive or Windows thinks there is.

Make sure the drive is empty and the button/mechanism is in the open position. Possibly the microswitch is stuck. Pop a diskette in and out a couple of times to try and free it. Look for a label stuck inside.

Otherwise, possible floppy drive failure or incorrect drive type set in BIOS.

Well it might e a drive failure but I don't think the drive has been use in quite awhile. Tried all the other things though.

OK, so maybe something has been messing around.

Check the system environment to see if something has been added to the path pointing to the A: drive.

ie: right click on my computer
left click on properites
click advanced tab
click environment variables button
in the system environment area, highlight path and click edit and look for a reference in there to the floppy drive. If it's there, remove it.

Use regedt32 and search the registry for a:\ in the values. If you decide to make any changes do a registry backup first.

Most likely it is your antivirus software.
Exclude the floppy drive from its scanning and test.
