Hi,

I just upgraded my BIOS and now I get
this message when I boot my machine:

Code:
Floppy Disk Controller Failure

It thens says:

Code:
F1 to setup, Esc to boot

I've been into the BIOS and cant resolve anything.
When I boot into Win98, my floppy drive is a
"Removable Disk (A):" and I cant use it.

I've used the "Add New Hardware" wizard
with the Win98 CD but get this message:

Code:
This device is disabled because the BIOS for the
device did not give it any resources. (Code 29.)

You must enable the device in the BIOS. See your
hardware documentation for details, or contact your
computer manufacturer to get an updated BIOS

I dont have any hardware documentation; my computer
is a Gateway2000 P133 and is 6 years old and
contacting Gateway2000 is a myth!

The orginal BIOS I had installed was "1.00.01.CN0T"
and from the site I upgraded
it to the latest "1.00.03.CN0T" because I want to
install a new CPU chip.

If I re-install Win98 will that do it?

HELP!

Thank you,
karmafree.

As mentioned in the other forum where you posted this message, reinstalling Win98 will not resolve the problem. It must be repaired in the BIOS, otherwise you're looking at a hardware failure that will require a mobo replacement...

As said previously, your Windows 98 installation has absolutely nothing to do with this problem...

After upgrading, did you select something like "Load setup defaults" in the BIOS? If not, try it. Also, you could try completely clearing CMOS with whatever option your mobo gives you - "CLR CMOS" jumper, or remove the battery, etc. Ensure that the correct size of floppy drive is being selected in the BIOS.
