Hello

My friend has a Win98 PC and in the past week it's started flashing its desktop icons upon resuming from standby. However, it's not just the icons. If he tries to launch software, such as MS Word, it too starts flashing.

It does not seem to be a refresh issue as he can leave his PC switched on after resuming from standby and the flashing just continues until he restarts/shuts down.

At first I thought it may be an icon cache issue, but it's affecting software as well.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Oomphenah.

I have a standby problem as well - the power light doesn't change from green to amber, and i have to restart my machine ... no flashing icons, but i think this is a software problem too ...

Anyone have some expertise with straightening out system Standby problems?

Here's an article to help;

And.......
on this page if you scroll all the way down to bottom....you'll see a bunch of links directly to many APM/ACPI..MS knowledge Base articles...

Tons of info here...I know......
I've had APM issues myself....but since I wouldn't want to harm your systems as you both may have ACPI...I don't know.....I'd rather you read and make informed choices yourselves
My instinct says to Remove APM and restart...and the New Hardware wizard "should" detect it....and there's much info on first link to help if it doesn't.....However.....Remember that my instincts are only suggestions.....

I believe from reading above said articles that a BIOS update wouldn't hurt,.....and/or APM..ACPI Update
