what now?

dearingkr,
I'm not "salturth" but I'm having a similar issue and I'm wondering if you can offer me any suggestions.

The symptoms are Win2K launches normally all the way to the Login screen. The next step doesn't matter whether I use Administrator or my regular user name. After I enter the name and password, the regular login commences, it checks for connections to other machines on my local network and I can say Yes or No to reconnecting because it doesn't change the outcome, then it sits on a screen for a minute or so, and then jumps back to the Login screen. Ctrl+Alt+Del, enter user & pwd, Enter, and it jumps back to the Login. Some setting is caught in a loop and I can't figure how to break the circle. I've tried Safe Boot with exactly the same outcome. I've tried the Recovery Console and used both methods (Recover and the other one whose name escapes me right now). Same results. My gut level feeling tells me there's a video driver that's hanging up, but I can't prove it or get to the control panel to make changes. Safe Mode, which comes up in VGA, didn't seem the change the symptoms. Now I'm thinking I'll have to reinstall the OS.

I'd appreciate any ideas you can offer and Thank You for your assistance.

Knock and the door will be opened to you; Seek and you will find; Ask and it will be given to you! [peace]
