I am very new to flash. I have a very simple flash and I am trying to save it to a webpage. How do I put a flash file online without publishing it as a shockwave file?

If you only want it to be a link you can just upload the .fla file and link to it. If you want it to play in the browser it must be an .swf.

Wow JT that almost looked like you knew what you were doing!

ok, does this mean that people need shockwave to view?

They need the Flash plugin yes. (A version of which by the way is pre-installed with most browsers these days)
