Flash locks up

My experience is that winme is bad. I'm refusing to work with anything but '98 SE. at this point as my girlfriend had a rought time just getting a printer to get set up which I had up and running in 5 minutes on my system. ME has TWO DIFFERENT "C" DRIVES!!!!! One is real, the other is virtual (or something), so if you uninstall, make sure you get it out of the whole system. Better yet, just go back to your previous version of Windows. I'm not kidding. I've heard tragic stories of winme.

Thanks for both of your replys.
I un-installed Flash with Add-Remove in the control panel;
haven't re-installed yet. But Netscape hung up. I wonder if
it's a problem with programs that use JavaScript?
I asked tech support at MM, and they said they don't know of
a problem with using Flash and WinMe together. And they
don't have any patches.
They suggested launching Flash in Safe Mode. Haven't tried yet.
I didn't realize the 2 partitions were necessary for WinMe.
I thought it was a Compaq-thing.
Oldnewbie, when you said do a clean install, did you mean
un-install & re-install, or is there a "cleaner" way? I hope it
doesn't mean "re-format" & install.
Anyway, I'll try out all those suggestions, and if nothing else works,
I may just go back to Win98. I'll let you guys know how it goes =)

I also have problems with Flash and WinME. If I go to a site with Flash it locks my PC until my internet connection dies. Sometimes it locks it till I reboot. I've reformatted my whole drive and started over with no success. I'm about to go back to 98 SE.
My intermittent absence of the past two months has been due to WinME problems, got rid of it and am now back to 98.
Another addition to Old's and Blended's suggestions would be to get yourself a registry cleaner like Ontrack's Fixit 2000 or something similar. I found that when Flash crashed out, a quick deinstallation followed by a clean-out of the flash references in the registry, followed by a re-install, sorted the crashing. BUT, just in case you don't know, any changes to the registry can make your problems worse if your not VERY careful.

Since last night, I've gone to javascripts.com and found I had problems with some javascripting and DHTML as well as Flash. I DL'd IE 5.5 SP1 and I changed some portions of IE's security as far as scripting. I didn't have much of a chance to test, but I'll work it out today.

Thanks for all the help. I un-installed & re-installed Flash5, and it still crashes.
The browser still locks occasionally, too. I think there's a connection, maybe due
to Javasript (like DetroitKid2000). The common denominator is WinMe.
I guess the path of least resistance, but still a big hassle, is to go to Win98 as
most of you have.
I know it's risky to change the registry. I'd like to be able to work with it
though. Windows 98 Annoyances by O'Reilly is a very good book on it.
Maybe they'll patch ME so it's stabile, but I can't wait to find out.
I'll send this thread to Macromedia.
I hope we all get the kinks worked out so we can spend more time creating with
Flash rather than pulling out our hair! =0

PS- I just tried Flash in Safe Mode as Macromedia suggested.....didn't crash
in 30min...."normally" it would crash in ~10min or less.
That may not be a scientifically valid test, but I think it at least presumptively validates your conclusion that ME & Flash5 don't mix.
It was difficult to use it that way.....at 16 colors and 600xwhatever...... it looks awful! Like putting mustard on chocolate!
