Flash DB application

Hello, i'd like some advice.

I want to create a flash application thatpeople can download. When they run the program, it should connect to my server on the internet so it can retrieve some data. Is this possible? Then you may ask, why not run the flash application on the server too? Well, for speed reasons. It will be quite large and people shouldn't have to download the images and other stuff costantly.

When this is possible, is it also possible for the program to interact with a webserver? That way no ports on the firewall would have the be opened for tcp ip and such.

Pretty sure you can publish it as an exe (and quite possibly anything else) and it will connect to your servers normally.

When I'm testing db-driven flash apps I run them locally all the time, testing with data nabbed from the server-side.
