First session OK, next=hell

The first session after installing XP it works great, but if I shutdown and restart it's hell. The computer just restarts without any reason after i've used it for a while or even if i havent used it at all....i've installed it 4 times always same results. I may restart it on the first session but if turn power off and restars then its f*cked up...What's this all about?

BTW. I when i shutdown it doesn't turn the power off it leaves the screen "its now safe to turn of...." i dont know if it has anything to do with this though

some more information might be helpful, like what kind of system you are running, did you do a clean install of xp (reformatting hd, etc...), things like this.

A lot of problems can be traced back to preparation for XP. A clean install after a format is the best way of installing XP. Which ever way you go this link will give you a check list of common pitfalls.

To get further information about any errors look in your Event viewer.

Look in the System or Application folder. You can get to the Event Viewer via right click My Computer icon and select Manage.

Any errors logged in the Event Viewer can be expanded by double clicking on the error line.

Take any error I.D. number and search for it on this site.

Also check any "Information" line that mentions "savedump" and you should find reference to "recovered from a bug check". This is the Stop Error that caused your problem.

If your problem persists post back with this Stop Error.

You can also turn off "automatically restart after an error" so it will just halt at the fault and display the full Stop Error and blue screen.

Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties .
On the Advanced tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery .
Click to clear the Automatically restart check box under System failure , and then click OK . The error message on a blue screen should remain on the screen so you can record the error information.
