I've built a few pages using fireworks and they look pretty goo. Trouble is, as they load, they load in blocks, here and there. I'd rather they all loaded at once.

I've seen sites where the images first laod as a very blurry image then get gradually clearer.

How is this done?

The blocks are called slices. Depending on what you did on your page...rollovers, pop-ups, etc., Fireworks breaks all these individual images up into these slices. There is really no way to prevent it from happening since that would also prevent the rollovers and such to become inoperable.

If you are were just using Fireworks for its imaging capabilities and not using any special features that I just mentioned then you could just make a gifr out of the whole document I suppose and it would load as 1 big image.

The theory behind it all is... whereas it would take 30sec to load a whole document all at once...breaking it up into smaller bite size pieces ... allows the loading to be a little more efficient and shows the user that something really is happening.

One other advantage to this is each slice can be optimized differently. Your web page probably contains photos as well as vector objects. Putting a slice over all these objects allows you to specify the photos as jpg and the vectors as gif which is a big step toward decreasing file size.(see my FAQ on maximum optimization in Fireworks)faq726-621

k got all that, but I've still seen sites with rollovers etc where the blocks themselves fade in(ok..they are porn sites.. but some have good ideas so I check them out for professional reasons.) Its often done in these sites so the viewer sees an interesting image loading and is prepared to wait whilst the full resolution loads... STarts out grainy and gradually gets better.

Possible in Fireworks?

Yea, that's a jpeg option and you set it when you export a jpeg...

It's really only going to show on larger images, as those are the ones that take a long time to load. There's a box when you are in the export preview window of fireworks, and it says, 'progressive'...

That's what you're looking for. :)

nippi...are you using mostly photos or are we concerned mostly with gifs?

Interlaced...I think is the proper term for that loading option...

I am at work and do not have Fireworks installed here.

I will check and let you know when I get home this evening.

Interlaced is for gifs -- and yes, I think that is the option for gifs, whereas jpegs are 'progressive'

least that's what my copy says. ;-)

exactly...Link9.... I was trying to think of that word..."progressive".... Thanks

I need Fireworks installed here at work...I have the hardest time when I don't have the software right in front of me.

There you go Nippi. Ya' Gotta Love It!

Thanks Guys. I spent bloody ages trying to figure it out but couldn't find the correct wording to find it in the help manual. Same problem looking for it on the web.

Nice
