I've looked around but haven't found anything pertinent to my situation. I have a X1000 and I'm trying to figure out how to allow remote assistance through it. Everytime I have to help a client, I have to hook my laptop up to the external network and give it a public IP. If I leave it on the private network, I get a timeout after a few minutes. I've heard rcimlby.exe uses random ports so, I'm wondering, is there a way to allow rcimlby.exe and sessmgr.exe (and any other required executables) to pass through my Firebox?

Any help is appreciated, as I'm tired of changing my IP configuration everytime I need to help someone remotely.

follow this article on what ports need to be open.

then you would need to create a 1-1 nat rule for your laptop so that computers could connect to it using a piblic Ip address. once that is done create a rule that you allo traffic to go in and out to your laptop's public and private only

interesting, i thought it would be something other than 3389. we already have rdp port forwarding set up for some of our servers (they're not NAT'd though because they're already public). so i'd just add a NAT entry to the existing service and point a public IP to my private IP? i'm kind of confused. where would the "novice" user enter an ip if we're both using msn messenger?

thanks for your time btw!
