Hi,

This is my forst installation of Exchange. I have already installed Server 2003 and the Exchange 2003 application. All of that is up and running. I created mailboxes for all users and created shared calendars. I will need to migrate the mail from a MAC mail server to the MS Exchange server first. Any idea how to do that?

Now I am ready to put the system on the internet. What is the best and safest method of doing that? Is putting the machine in the DMZ good enough?

What other things do I need to be aware of?

Thanks

If you have Outlook for the MAC, then I would suggest you use that to create a PST file to be imported into the new Exchange server.

For your mail delivery you need to have an MX record in public DNS that points to a public IP address.

That address can exist in your DMZ or just be NATed at the firewall to direct port 25 traffic to the Exchange box. You will also want to allow ports 80 and 443 for OWA and encrypted connections. I also suggest allowing UDP port 123 for the time service to be able to sync with Internet time servers.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark
