I am trying to figure out where outlook express saves the emails is has in the folders. I searched the hd for *.eml , and 'PICTURES!!!!*.*' (as that is the subject of one of the emails in my inbox)

the reason I want to do this, is because I want to backup all my emails as text files and you can't save multiple files at a time from outlook express.

any ideas? theEclipse

look for .dbx files. They are usually stored that way> I cant remember where in Windows Me they are located. But if you do a search on *.dbx you should find them. James Collins

Why not just copy and paste the email texts into notepad or wordpad and save it?

butchrecon-

thanks for the tip. that doesn't work tho. the .dbx files are the actual files for the folders, not the individual files (emails).

Yes but the messages are stored in those dbx files. That's the only place you'll find them. Open them in Wordpad and you'll see.

"would you like to copy and paste 300 some emails?"

Yeah that's what I would do. It would take time but so what.

This could be caused by a virus called w32.nimda.enc
it was created in September 2001 . One of my P.C's has this infection and it duplicates Email attachments and copies them onto the hard drive . Update your virus protection and quarantine and delete files as repair is impossible
good luck
this virus uses web servers to infect microsoft has a patch for internet explorer to fix this security flaw

Don't what this talk about viruses have to do with where OE files are stored...

Why not export your email.....you can do this as I always do this for my emloyees at work

if you need additional support I can give you the steps here!
