We are using ISA Server 2000 to filter access to the Internet. By using Site and Content Rules in conjunction with Destination Sets we can control which users have access to the web, and can restrict most people to specific sites that we define.

If a user tries to visit a non authorised site, they get a username and password prompt, however their own username and password doesn't work and therefore they cannot access this site.

This is fine, until a user accesses an allowed site (e.g. which has adverts, or other content from another site which we have not specifically allowed. Then the main site is displayed but the user gets password prompts for each bit of content from the other sites, which have to be dismissed.

Is there a way of stopping these password prompts appearing please? I.e. if the content is not allowed it it blocked, without prompting for a password first?

Thanks!

Stuart

I am looking for the same exact solution. I have site and content rules for allowed websites. Anything that is not allowed is blocked properly but each time the user will receive the authentication dialog asking them for a user name and password. Is there a way around this? I don't want the dialog to appear for each blocked site. If the site is not allowed then don't display the site or authentication dialog period.

Thanks

Got it!

Install SP2 for ISA and run the reg hack from Microsoft bulletin 297324

Excellent! This works fine. However it would seem that the MS bulletin has an error, as it states that this problem is corrected in ISA service pack 1. However we have service pack 2 and still had the problem.

Still SP2 + the registry editor worked. It might just be worth mentioning hat after applying the registry edit you need to restart the Microsoft ISA Server Control Service and the other services it prompts for. Then that's it, no more annoying authentication boxes!

Thanks!
