Filtering Existing Reports

I have a report already written, and I want to filter the underlying query to get certain reccords, instead of writing a whole new one. I tried it once, and had to redo the whole report, it wouldn't open after I removed the filter on the query. I supposedly am supposed to be able to do this, but is there anything special that I need to do that isn't totally obvious? It is a large and complicated report, would that make a difference? Any help would be greatly appreciated. =)

No one likes to answer my question. I guess it must be real dumb. hnm.
Is this underlying query based on more then one table. When you say you want to filter this query do you mean you want to add parameters or to open the query, filter it, then run the report? A report is generally based on an underlying record source. If you change that source so that specified data is no longer avaliable then the report won't run properly no matter how complex or simple it is. One safe thing to do if you are redesigning an existing report is to make sure there is a working backup up the report itself as well as the underlying data. I have spent hours getting a report to look just so. Protect it.
As far as your last post. I would not assume an unanswered question is not worth an answer. Everyone here has legit questions. If you will notice the ones that get answered the fastest are the ones that take the time to go into great detail what the problem is how the tables are structured etc. Hope this helps.

Thank you! It's all good anyways, but thanks!
