when i use alto filter in excel, in the status bar, it usually says "23 of 50 records found" or somethign similar. But on one spreadsheet it just says "Filter Mode" i've tried pasting the data into a new workbook to no avail, it only happens with this data and i can;t understand it :(

any ideas?

It is easy to destroy search information on the status bar. Just click to display drop-down list and click again to hide it without selecting anything - only "Filter Mode" remains on the status bar.
Do you use the autofilter to filter data in the same way and have different info on the status bar?

thank you - saved me a lot of time
nit sure how this works: do i give a star? i've seen people not accept stars because it wasn't their answer; but all in all, yours was a helpful post!

BTW - use
Code:
 =Subtotal(3, <RangeOfYourEntireList>)
to do your own count of visible values - that way at least u know results. & check out DaleWatson's FAQs on the use of xl as database - v. useful stuff!

Cheers
Nikki

Faxof - I'd award the star here as anyone else suffering the same issue will be able to see that a helpful answer was given and they'll be able to check out the article as well. In case you don't see this, I'll award the star on your behalf Rgds
