Files on network drives open as read only

When XP clients open files on an NT Server share by double-clicking them in Explorer, the files intermittently open as read-only. This fault does not occur when you go into the app and click File > Open.

SP1A & updates 811492, 810565 & 328170 (which supposedly fixes the problem) are installed.

Any ideas?

Also, if you have a corporate update license, applying the download patch for the shell found in KB Q812793 also has a direct effect on this issue.

I wish that MS would make Q812793 available to everyone, as it effects even small Home LANs.
