Files Disappear off NW5 server

I have had 2 instances where files disappear from a folder on a NetWare 5.0 SP6 server. If I look at salvage or Console One, View deleted files, there is no history of deletion. Can anyone think of what would make files disappear?

Hi,

In Windows Explorer it is not uncommon for users to moving files unknowingly. Check the folder immediately above and below the originating folder.

I agree, it may be worth performing a search of your volume to see if the files have been moved. If they have been moved, the owner of the file/directory should be set to the culprit so you can then have a quiet word with them.

The only other reason is a serious underlying hardware problem with the server, eg. faulty SCSI card etc....

One other thing to look at... If this involves MS Office files and users are browsing via File | Open - and they delete, then from what I've seen the deleted file won't be in either salvage nor in pc recycle bin.
